Cathy Wright MSc

I have a First Class Honours degree in Human Nutrition from Manchester Metropolitan University.

My research interests include the impact of nutrition on the brain & mental health and the association between diet & lifestyle and risk to metabolic health, in particular cardiovascular disease.

As a keen runner, I have a special interest in sports nutrition and the crucial role it plays in enhancing sporting performance; believing it essential to provide athletes with information based upon science and not the latest fads or trends. I attend the gym several times per week and regularly compete in half marathons and 10k races; I view my training as part of my commitment to continual self-development.

Aside from working on a one-to-one basis with clients, I also write and present nutrition seminars and workshops to various groups both in the public and private sector, including athletic clubs and sports people and also work with companies to help enhance the health & well-being of employees. I regularly contribute on BBC Radio Derby, reporting on a wide range of current nutrition and health related topics.

During 2008/2009 I gained the Introduction to Counselling Concepts Certificate and the Intermediate Certificate in Counselling Skills from the University of Derby, there being so much emotion tied into and around food & eating.

September 2010 sees me back at Manchester Metropolitan University studying on a part-time basis for my MSc in Nutrition & Health.
